Why use a proofreader?
It is not easy to review your own work objectively. It can be difficult to spot errors or inconsistencies when you are really familiar with the material. As a trained proofreader, I can offer you a fresh pair of eyes to make your work as accurate as possible.
If you want to ensure that your message is consistent and clear, my copyediting service can add real value. I can provide you with an independent viewpoint and ensure that your text is written in a consistent style and format.
I also have experience of copyediting text for people who are not native English speakers. I work with them to make their text sound as natural as possible, whilst maintaining their own "voice" and style.
If you are unsure whether you need proofreading or copyediting, please get in touch and I'd be happy to discuss it with you.
Things I can help you with
I will help to ensure that your business communications are accurate and clear. I have experience of working with a variety of texts such as:
Recruitment and assessment materials
HR documentation including employee handbooks, employee policies and employee intranet sites
Business reports and white papers
Tender documents, proposals and project implementation paperwork
Charity award applications
I am also happy to consider other types of documents. Please contact me to discuss your requirements and see if I can help.
How I can help you
Each project is unique and will vary depending upon whether you require proofreading or copyediting. We will always agree upfront what you need me to do.
When proofreading, I will always check:
Consistency of terminology used
Consistency of formatting and layout
Consistent use of capitals and hyphens
I am happy to work to any style guides that you would like to provide me with for your project. If you do not have a style guide, I am happy to help you create one.
If you require copyediting, I can also check that facts are accurate, make sure that the language used is appropriate and ensure consistency in style, layout and formatting.
Formats I work in
I predominantly work in the following formats:
PDF: I use markup tools and comments.
Word: I use track changes so you can easily see what changes I have suggested.
Online: I provide screenshots of sections that need changes and add comments.
I am also trained and proficient in using the British Standards Institution (BSI)
proof-correction marks if you prefer to work with hard copy documents.
I will always clearly explain any suggested changes so that you can make an informed decision whether or not to use them.
I will provide an individual quote for each project. The price for your work will depend upon the complexity of the project, the amount of work needed and the required timeframe. I base my prices on the rates suggested by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
