More about me
I have always loved reading and studying languages. From a young age, I was an avid reader and I always knew that I wanted to study languages at university. I did a degree in French and German, including a year working abroad doing translation and teaching English, which I really enjoyed.
After completing my degree, I joined Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on their Human Resources graduate scheme. I was lucky enough to work in a wide variety of roles, including generalist roles in HR Consulting and Employee Relations and specialist roles such as Internal Communications, Travel & Expense, Policy & Process and Project Management. I also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and this, combined with the experience I had gained in my first three years at JLR, enabled me to upgrade to individual chartered status (MCIPD) which I then held for 14 years.
I gained a lot of valuable skills and experience during my time at JLR but, after 17 years, I knew that it was time to try something different! I had always enjoyed writing employee communications and proofreading various types of documents as part of my Human Resources Manager roles so I decided to pursue proofreading as a career option.
I studied for my proofreading qualification with the Publishing Training Centre and passed with merit. I also joined the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) as an Entry-Level member.
I am now putting the skills and experience gained during my 17 years in the corporate world to good use by being able to provide a knowledgeable and informed viewpoint when proofreading business and HR documentation.
I still love reading, although I do most of this on my Kindle now so I get my fix of real books by volunteering once a week in my local Oxfam bookshop!
